Generations have watched Philadelphia slowly slide down the ladder of national prominence. The final slip came in 2006, when Philadelphia exploded in a crime wave that claimed the highest homicide rate of any big city in the country. Somewhere along the way, the "Athens of America" lost its focus -- and increasingly, it seems Philadelphia is the brother no one wants anything to do with.
